Risk behaviors in substance use disorder in a sample of Egyptian female patients with or without symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder

Abstract Background Risk-taking behaviors are associated with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and substance use (SUD). Individuals both diagnoses have been reported to an earlier onset, a longer course, greater severity, more relapses difficulty remaining abstinent. The current study was assessing females seeking treatment for SUDs the presence of comorbid ADHD, investigate association between severity SUD co-occurring ADHD symptoms examine related risk behaviors. Therefore, thirty female patients were enrolled, demographic data collected. Participants interviewed by SCID I, addiction index, Arabic-translated validated version adult Self-Report Scale Barratt Impulsiveness Version 11, Arabic Adult Hostility Aggression. Results Thirty included in study, 33.3% had extreme on index scale. Fifteen symptoms; high likely scores, according Self-Reported (ASRS). There is significant difference regarding age onset smoking ( P = 0.029), first sexual activity 0.002), number partners 0.009), impairment employment, family social relationships items 0.024, 0.028, respectively) than without symptoms. Conclusion Female diagnosed use, having at younger age, family, relationship problems.
